"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:"
~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge, from "Kubla Khan", 1797.
Designer Gweilo has revealed another teaser from "Builder for the Great Khans", his current work-in-progress. The upcoming custom campaign will allow a player to build Shangdu (Xanadu), the city which became the Summer Capital of Kublai Khan during the Yuan dynasty.
This ancient city became the inspiration for English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge some five centuries later, when he immortalized it in his work "Kubla Khan" - thus cementing it forever in literary history.
As you can see in the mini-map above, the topography of the map will challenge a player to adapt to the rugged terrain of inner Mongolia, where Xanadu once actually stood. Will you be able to build the pleasure dome decreed by the mighty Khan? Your chance will come in the spring of 2007! Check back here at Emperor Heaven in the weeks ahead for more updates!
