"Welcome, Young Hopefuls," the examiner smiles at you as you enter the large room. Outside the sun has just risen above the hill east of the city and the noise of the crickets is already a steady drone. The fresh sunlight paints diamonds in the myriad drops of dew that still cling to grass, the bamboo and the trees.
"I see that some of you have arrived here travelling with the trader Jei Ku, whilst others have received directions from priestess Jil Bei"
You shuffle in and take place behind the simple desks, you look at the stack of paper and the wolf-hair brushes that are lined up next to the ink stone. Today is going to be the most important day in your life. The examiner waits until you are all seated before he starts to speak again.
"You are gathered here to take the Bureaucratic Examination, the ultimate test of your administrative skills."
The examiner nods towards the two men standing slightly behind him, the one an older, distinguished looking gentleman, the other...a foreigner.
"My assistants Bob Tei and Gweilo have helped me prepare the challenges that lie ahead of you."
He looks at you, his wrinkled eyes seeming to pause on you.
"And my name is Yang Ya Bo. You may address me as Master Yang.
I wish you good luck and may your effort please the Emperor."
During Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination (the E:BE for short) you will have the opportunity to play a total of seven
campaigns some of which will consist of multiple scenarios, while others will consist of a single scenario. Each campaign will focus on an aspect of successful city building: resource management, monument building, aesthetics, warfare and others.
The event is scheduled to run for about 8 weeks from early
May to late
June.
We will open a registration thread shortly where you can tell us you want to enter the competition.
More information will be posted in the
Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination forum as it becomes available (or is ready to be made public).
