The zip file in this download is called 'TWOK-Lolang2.zip', and contains two files: 'TWOK-Lolang2.sav' and 'Lolang_battle1.jpg'.
The save is the city of Lo-lang from the last mission of 'The Warlords of Koguryo' custom campaign. Difficulty level was 'very hard'. The save was made 1 month prior to fulfilling the final mission goals.
The conservative defensive strategy of building on the southern plateau was continued in this mission. This quickly begins to impose a challenge for structure placement, as available building space on the plateau becomes scarce. This is compounded if perfect Feng Shui is desired (as this save has). The space restrictions eventually forced me to build some structures down near river/salt flats area, just east of the plateau. I intentionally moved my Administrative City here, for better cycling of emissaries. Moving it also allowed me to place two trading posts in its old location up on the plateau.
I needed to import alot of raw materials in the first few years, and I intentionally ran my treasury in the red to receive bail-out loans from Liaoyang and Xinzheng. I sent them gifts to offset the resulting favor drop.
Using the plateau strategy, food begins to become a problem when the population reaches about 2600. I began to import food from all land trading partners. I avoided sea trading partners to avoid the defensive liability a sea trading post brings to the map (this is really a matter of personal preference). However, building sea trading posts in this mission does not draw enemy soldiers like a magnet - the enemy targetting AI is set to 'random', not 'rampage' (as in mission 4).
I continued the conservative strategy in both my diplomacy and the war with the Koreans. I took no offensive actions until after the big Korean invasions were repulsed, around 217 CE. In the meantime, I gathered my allies.
I summoned Sun Wu Kong early in the mission, and imported 12 bars of steel. I used his blessing on weaponsmiths to produce 4 weapons from each single load of this steel. This enabled me to equip my new troops quickly, and for far less cost than normal. Between Sun Wu Kong's magic and the weapons booty I began to get when the invasions were defeated, my army fleshed out to full strength easily.
All invasions were successfully defeated - no bribing was done. No 'military aid' was called on from my allies. Several of my city gates were destroyed, and the rubble left behind after reloading a game in which this occurs (a known bug) can be seen when you load this save.
You will notice places in my walls where gatehouses can be quickly placed when an invasion is imminent. Note that using the southern plateau as a central location will essentially eliminate the irritating 'road to China blocked' bug/feature of the game engine.
For the battles in this mission, I chose to meet the invaders down at my defensive walls near the salt flats. This allowed arrow fire to soften them up until the time was right to send in the infantry. I used Sun Tzu in the heavy combat years (214-216 CE), for the bonus he gives to infantry morale. You can see one of my more interesting battles if you look at the screenshot 'Lolang_battle1.jpg', which comes included in the zip file.
This building strategy did give me a rather late start on the Large Palace monument. It wasn't completed until July, 225 CE (as the last mission goal to be fulfilled). As soon as Kuang and Hanan had been conquered, I dismissed Sun Tzu and summoned Xi Wang Mu to speed the final phases of construction.
In summary, I recommend the southern plateau building strategy for players who are less sure of their military skills, and more confident of their abilities in space management.
