Mission 1 is for military buildup.
Mission 2 is for conquests.
I only lost the irrigation pump in the flood.
There is a JPG included of an invasion force from Ji after vassalizing them. The invasioin is caused by 'hostile' favor and the slow turnaround time for the water route.
Xinzheng and Xiongnu requested an alliance (rejected) due to the many favor increases of rival cities from conquests of other cities(becoming vassals).
No festivals were held and city sentiment was between 'invited to every celebration' and 'more popular then Dim Sum'.
Edit (add file to zip: VowExtremeM1shaun.sav)
Gweilo had me intrigued with the possiblility of finishing all the mission 2 requirements in Missiion 1. This is the new build that accomplishes that with 8 months to spare. |

Your build for Xianyang is great, but I am most impressed by the fact that you didn't start conquering the rival cities until mission 2, yet you still won by April 220 BCE. Conquering 10 cities in a little over 7 years at 'very hard' difficulty is quite a feat. You were only a few months off Ying Zheng's historic pace!
Perhaps you were challenging yourself to see what you could accomplish in mission 2. I say that because you finished mission 1 in only 4 years. If you had intentionally prolonged mission 1, and used the extra years there to begin your conquests, you could have made the pace of Ying Zheng's conquests look slow by comparison! Did you go back and try this to see how fast you could win the campaign? I wonder if you could have conquered everything before mission 1 ended? [Edited on 08/21/04 @ 10:08 PM]

In a previous playing(many months ago), I had used forknowledge of mission 2 and conquered more then half of the cities while in mission 1.
The intent of this run was to finish each mission with minimal goals, but allowing the 'armament/buildup' of mission 1 to facilitate immediately beginning mission 2's conquesting. The treasury goal was handled by over-building elite housing and taxing at outrageous in both runs.
Finishing all campaign requirements within mission 1 may be possible provided the few 4 shield cities(max shield count) are conquered first. Ji and Linzi are a pain if there shield counts get maxed out, as this run showed.
Ji's invasion bribe was nearly 30,000cash. The gatehouse didn't last long with 4 or more catapults. I almost decided to bribe them but figured that the added towers(absorbing unemployed as I shutdown the weaponsmith industy), all forces available and the returning forces may be enough to clean out the invaders.
PS:
This build had a few flaws. Extra warehousing was needed for the elite hemp and ceramics distribution. There just wasn't enough rocks in the right place on this map for the warehouses and inspectors. In truth it was poor city planning [ok :) ]. The wood distribution and military spawl was a concern.[Edited on 08/22/04 @ 02:12 AM]

Added VowEmtremeM1shaun.sav to the zip file.
I took Gweilo's idea in the above post and accoomplished it with 8 months to spare. |

Congratulations, I figured you could do it all in mission 1. :)
Incidentally, I was running your mission 2 save just to see things, when suddenly a message popped up that I have never seen before (and I'm smacking myself for not making a screenshot of it). It said something like "You have discovered the secret of manufacturing steel! It may now be used." When the message ended, your ironworks had been removed from the map. The iron in some of your weaponsmiths had suddenly been changed to steel, and the weaponsmiths themselves had been upgraded to steel weaponsmiths (slight change in the graphic). The bad part was in the industrial ministry - the ironworks was gone and a steel furnace was NOT shown in its place (so no new steel could be produced on the map). Or course this occurrence is not an event that can be scripted, and the date was only 210 BCE, so the only reason I can think of for this message is that the game must have some kind of random chance of triggering the 'era change', as the time line moves forward. I tried restarting the mission several times but I never got the message to appear again. Quite interesting, and I wanted to share it, because it looks like the game is a bit buggy if this occurs. A copy/paste from 'EmperorEventmsg.txt' in the 'Models' folder.
There are simular messages for all the 'timeline' changed commodities. There isn't any wood-to-paper message but I have experianced the frustration of redoing the industries/services a few times.
I have no idea of what the trigger events are for a commodity timeline change, but I'm assuming from the messages that they ALL can be mid-mission changes. Usually the change happens between continuation missions which is simply allowing a new commodity. Other times its "BANG" the industry has changed and I'm scrambling to fix the issue.

Thanks for clarifying that, maybe in the future we'll figure out more about what triggers these. |

Your welcome.
Perhaps a timeline commodity transitioning campaign is in order, though I would prefer a Ming dynasty(historically accurate) campaign. My personal campaign deviated a lot from the historians, but I do have some interesting ideas that fit in with the historians view.
Sidenote:
Completing all campaign requirements in mission 1 of Ying's Vow was much harder then I made it appear. There are more cities with 4 shield counts and the '10 year - shield boost', we discussed in the forum eventually kicks in so the remaining rival or two get an extra shield just when its REALLY inconvenient. |
