Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination

An Emperor Heaven 'Olympics' Competition

Be Prepared

Welcome to the competition page for the Be Prepared. To play this competition game you must have the Emperor Patch 1.0.1.0 installed.

Click on the link below to download the game starting position:

Be Prepared

This download is a zipped .pak file. Unzip the download and place the .pak file in the Emperor Campaigns folder; typically C:\SIERRA\EmperorRotMK\Campaigns. You should then find Be Prepared listed when you open the in-game Custom Campaigns.

Before you start to play ensure that you have selected the correct difficulty; that is, the difficulty at which you registered to play the Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination competition games. The in-game engine will automatically apply a 20% reduction to the initial funds for the very hard game, so the appropriate initial funds for each difficulty are:

Normal: 8000 strings of cash
Very Hard: 6400 strings of cash

Now you can play.

Mission briefing

The examiner, Yang Ya Bo, strode into the room in a confident manner. He carefully placed his papers in a neat pile on his desk, and looked out on the roomful of anxious candidates.

"Welcome to the first test of the Bureaucratic Examination, Young Hopefuls. It will take you back to the time when the fierce Korean warriors raided our borders. The Emperor had two choices; to fight them or to make peace with them.

You will be responsible for making sure that whatever route His Celestial Majesty decides to follow, there will be enough of our sharpest weapons to wage war, and enough of our finest bronze to sue for peace".

Designers' Advice

The start date for this game is February 1000 CE. This is a speed competition. The saved game for your competition entry should be made as soon as you have achieved all the Competition Completion Criteria.

Remember to make a manual save in January of every year. You will get a message informing you of an increase in the price of carved jade (which plays no part in the game) as a reminder to make these saves.

Please be careful to comply with the completion criteria as set out on this page, and ignore the in-game mission goals, both of which are present only for assessment purposes.

Please note the special rule that you must not build any elite housing at all in this game.

Have fun!!
