Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination

An Emperor Heaven 'Olympics' Competition

Trade Tycoon

Welcome to the competition page for the Trade Tycoon. To play this competition game you must have the Emperor Patch 1.0.1.0 installed.

Click on the link below to download the game starting position:

Trade Tycoon

This download is a zipped .pak file. Unzip the download and place the .pak file in the Emperor Campaigns folder; typically C:\SIERRA\EmperorRotMK\Campaigns. You should then find Trade Tycoon listed when you open the in-game Custom Campaigns.

Before you start to play ensure that you have selected the correct difficulty; that is, the difficulty at which you registered to play the Emperor: The Bureaucratic Examination competition games. The in-game engine will automatically apply a 20% reduction to the initial funds for the very hard game, so the appropriate initial funds for each difficulty are:

Normal: 8000 strings of cash
Very Hard: 6400 strings of cash

Now you can play.

Mission briefing

The familiar figure of the examiner, Yang Ya Bo, stepped up to the lectern again.

"Greetings Young Hopefuls. Today's test will be all about trade. Trade is the lifeblood of our cities. Trade is what made the Middle Kingdom what it is: the pinnacle of civilisation."

"Yours will be a simple task.  Your post will be in the city of Anyi from where you will have to demonstrate your good intentions to the neighbouring cities. Some of these cities you will need to convince of being allies, some to be trade partners, and others will need to be persuaded to gift you animals for your menagerie, so use your diplomatic skills well. You will also need to make money, a minimum of 3,000 strings of cash will let you pass the test, but the more skill you show at making money the better your results. "

Quick hands made notes as the examiner spoke, ink flowed from wolfhair pencil. Yang Ya Bo was silent then turned as if to leave the lectern. He hesitated, then turned back to the gathered crowd.

"Ah, Young Hopefuls, did I mention you will need to do all of the above in only 8 years?"

Designers' Advice

The start date for this game is February 200BCE. Your competition entry should be a saved game in January 193 BCE. You should ignore this requirement to survive 8 years.

Remember to make a manual save in January of every year. You will get a message informing you of an increase in the price of paper (which plays no part in the game) as a reminder to make these saves.

Have fun!!
