Norton Personal Firewall

Symantec Logo From the user's stand-point, Norton Personal Firewall works much the same way as McAfee Firewall. Namely, when a program is trying to access the internet, it shows a popup window with available options: allow or deny access to that program. Needless to say, you need to allow Internet access to Emperor. Once you do that, you should be good to go. But if you have automatic protection turned on, or for some other reasons Emperor is just blocked, you can follow these steps to allow Emperor multiplayer:

  • Open Norton Personal Firewall.
  • In the Security Center, double-click "Personal Firewall".
  • In the Personal Firewall window, on the Program Control tab, in the list of programs, click Add.
  • In the Select a program window, find Emperor.exe, located under "C:\Sierra\EmperorRotMK\" by default.
  • In the Internet Access Control alert, on the What do you want to do menu, select "Create a firewall rule".
  • Select "Permit Internet Access". Click Next.
  • Select "Connections to and from other computers". Click Next.
  • Select "Any computer". Click Next.
  • Select "TCP and UDP" protocols.
  • Select "Only the types of communications or ports listed below".
  • Add these ports to the list: 25332, 25333
  • Click Next
  • Select "Create an Event Log entry". Click Next.
  • You can really choose any name you want, but we will be adding another rule next, so call this something like "Emperor pre-game matching", as this is what the ports we just opened are used for.
  • Click Next. Click Finish.
  • Click Add to add another rule. (You should now be in the "General Rules, Trojan Horse Rules, or Program Rules" window, not the "Program Control" tab.)
  • Select "Permit Internet Access". Click Next.
  • Select "Connections to other computers". Click Next.
  • Select "Any computer". Click Next.
  • Select "TCP" protocol.
  • Select "Only the types of communications or ports listed below".
  • Add these ports to the list: 15101, 15200, 15300, 15800, 20941
  • Click Next
  • Select "Create an Event Log entry". Click Next.
  • Once again, choose whichever name you like, but the appropriate name, corresponding to the function of these ports would be: "Emperor master server communication".
