Pecunia has provided detailed information on consumption rates during gameplay.
Almost every house needs food and/or goods to maintain the level it is currently on. They consume those goods and food, so you need to restock every house with goods from a market.
Every occupant of a house above hut (with the exception of lavish siheyuan) eats food, 0.25 units per month.
Every house above plain cottage consumes hemp, 2
Every house above spacious dwelling consumes ceramics, also 2 units/month.
Luxury Apartments and Heavenly Compounds consume tea, also 2 units/month.
All elite houses above Lavish Siheyuan consume silk, again 2 units/month.
And finally: compounds consume wares, either bronzeware or lacquerware, once again 2 units/month.
