This is another variation of the original Eight Kingdoms mission, this time there is an added Treasury goal of 20,000 cash. This means that unlike the original Eight Kingdoms mission you cannot buy your way to victory but must trade and watch where you spend your money. It is still normally a fairly quick mission. Only common housing is available and there is no military.

Naval Trade

by Vovan

Many beautiful canals have been dug in our homeland. They please the eye and calm the heart of travelers from the distant Gobi and Taklamakan deserts, as well as those of the inhabitants of the cities blessed with these truly wonderful monuments, which serve as a testimony to the greatness of the Middle land. The Emperor has rewarded those, who supervised the creation of the canals. However, in his eternal wisdom, the Emperor understands that the canals serve yet another purpose. Now, that all the rivers are connected to each other, water trade is greatly simplified. One does not have to venture out to the sea to enter another river, but can simply cross between them through the truly Grand Canals. While Luoyang is still building what is going to be the longest canal in China, the Emperor wants eight cities to be founded. They will utilize the canals and, once built up, serve as a base for the new network of water trade between the cities of China. The most successful ruler will be rewarded by the Emperor.

This is a reasonably quick and straightforward mission requiring you to build a medium sized city and make enough money to meet the other goals. One slightly tricky part is laying out the city to maximise trade since, as the mission name suggests, water trade plays a very important role. There is no military in this mission and both elite and common housing is available.

Securing the Silk Road

by Dalton

During The Han dynasty, The empire expanded westward as far as the rim of the Tarim Basin, making possible relatively secure caravan traffic across Central Asia to Antioch, Baghdad, and Alexandria. The paths of caravan traffic are often called the silk route because the route was used to export Chinese silk to the Roman Empire. Chinese armies also invaded and annexed parts of northern Vietnam and northern Korea toward the end of the second century B.C. Now that the silk route has been established, our beloved Emperor sends eight of his best Governors to found new cities aiming to turn this route into a very safe path. Our Governors will have to deal with frequent requests for silk coming from the Nomads, however, our beloved Emperor would not like to face another war up north while there are so many concerns with the South and Northeast. Be prepared to help the Kingdom.

A medium length mission that is based around trading. All the maps are arid, but food shouldn't be too hard to come by and usually peaceful though military and elite housing are available. There are quite a few requests, but many benefits to meeting them. The Treasury goal is very achievable as the trading opportunities are many.

Spring and Autumn

by Vovan and JuliaSet

Spring, autumn, winter ... time passes quickly. We must now bury our dead. After fighting each other for generations, the only way to survive is to put down our swords and cooperate with one another. Just honor is now due our departed leaders -- lost in the final battle, bonded in an untimely death. Thusly we go on. We must share readily with our former enemies to make a proper burial for our honored ancestors.

Competitive mission
Up to 6 players in 2 factions
Though it is a competitive mission you will need to co-operate (or bargain/threaten/bribe) and trade with your Faction partners or other players/cities in this mission for you to get everything needed to win as each city has only 1 of the 3 required burial goods. There is also a large wood production goal and quite a lot of requests for wood and other goods from Non Player cities. With no Elite housing and only Cavalry forts available think carefully before refusing too many requests. This is a medium to long length mission.

The Usurper

by BobT

After the expansive reign of emperor Han Wu-ti, the disparity between the wealth of the landowners and poverty of the peasants grew. Towards the end of the 1st century BCE a series of peasant revolts threatened to overthrow the state. Wang Mang, a young man born into a well distinguished family, had been appointed as regent to the throne during this time of trial. Although he was dismissed from his position, Wang Mang ascended to the throne in 9 CE and held Emperor status until his death in 24 CE. During this time, the Yellow and Yanzi rivers shifted several times and many peasants revolted. Wang Mang tried desparately to unify the people and provide lands and a new freedom to those peasants. Skilled craftsmen once again labored in the shops, provided a valued source of income to the cities. The wealthy lost most of their claim to the lands as Wang Mang returned the fields to the Peasants.
