Wudi Moves South

It was a mere three generations ago that your humble ancestor laid the foundation for Chang-an. Now, under the guiding hand of Emperor Wu Di, Chang-an is a great city ruling an expanding empire.
Far to the south, over the Yangzi, the land of Annan again beckons our people. It was not long ago, during the time of Qin, that our people first penetrated into the forbidding jungles of this land -- only to come stumbling back when the walls of the Qin collapsed. Now, during the reign of the great Wu Di, the empire's border again reaches southward. Now is the time to establish a permanent residence in this fertile region.
Even though you will be far from the heart of the Han Empire, you must remember to pay ceaseless homage to our ancient heroes. Build a strong city, for the local people still do not understand the ways of our fathers, and the meaning of civilization
Remember: a tree with deep roots will not topple when a strong wind blows.

The housing goals in this mission were the first thing I considered. I decided to lay out 2 blocks of housing to meet them, 1 common housing block and 1 elite one. The common one was of course the first one built. Later I built the elite block which could have held 10 elite houses but I only built 6 which gave me 120 people in Impressive Compounds.

No cities were trading at the start of the mission but Chang-an, Chengdu and Guangzhou all agreed to trade when asked. Unfortunately Guangzhou offered little benefit though I could sell some goods to Chang-an and Chengdu. Later gifts to Yin opened that trade route allowing me to make a good profit from lacquerware.

To meet the Hero goal I had a choice of Nu Wa, Huang Di, Confucius, Sun Tzu and Xi Wang Mu. I chose this time to call Huang Di and had him walking around my common housing supplying them with ceramics for much of the mission.

The Kingdom of Nanuye was discovered in June 134 and from the start they were Hostile. I kept giving them gifts of excess fish throughout the mission and their mood did move to Apathetic but I guess they felt I should have given them more as in July 131 they attacked. This was a couple of months before the last goal of Hero months was met and apart from Huang Di my city had no defences. I therefore bribed them 4500.

I finished in August 131 with 30 months of Heroes, 2766 people in Ornate Apartment or better, 120 people in Impressive Compounds and a treasury of 18924.
