Hills of Koguryo
Wu Di, the great Martial Emperor, has cast his eyes upon the hills of Koguryo, for it is there he wishes to establish a new city to expand the Han empire north and east. Earlier probles into this region indicate the presence of salt deposits, which can be mined for export. The Korean natives are aggressive, however, and none too friendly. Do not expect them to greet this intrusion with a humble bow.
To facilitate the dissemination of our culture, and so that your citizens' spiritual needs can be met, our emperor suggests that a Great Temple be built. Such a temple will delight our creator goddess, Nu Wa, and embolden the spirit of Confucius, sage of all time.
Expect a shipment of high quality iron from Chang-an before the first year is at an end. More will arrive as it can be spared. Weaponsmiths should be built to craft the iron into strong weapons. Troops will be needed to protect your city; do not neglect its defenses. Excess weapons, if any, can be exported to other cities of the empire, notably Chengdu and Jiaozhou.

If it wasn't for the Homage goal, you could finish this one in just a couple years. Start by building a common housing area. I wanted a few extra houses because I wasn't planning on giving the people ceramics. More houses meant more workers early but I didn't need or want a "huge" (over 2500) population later because I didn't think I could find work for them. I started with farming soy, cabbage and hemp. Again, I used the first hemp harvest to give 2 large gifts to a hero so he was in my city at the end of the first year. I wanted to keep everything in perfect harmony, so I only built 3 fisheries. They were fairly close to the Mill but miles away from the fish, but they were in the "best" spot available. Since I only needed plain food for the houses, I could have gone without it completely, but I like having decent food for my people and the Health and Popularity bonuses are worth it most of the time. With the addition of salt, they actually ended up with Tasty food at Spacious Dwelling. Salt was my primary export so I started with 3 salt mines, then expanded it later as I had more workers. I had tons of salt, which I used on heroes and one large gift to each of the trade partners that were buying it.
I made sure I had my Trading Pier set by Sept. of the first year and imported the 12 iron that was available. I also got a gift of iron, which I set in a warehouse by the pier. But I didn't start making weapons until December. That way, I had plenty of iron and I didn't "waste" production by splitting it up over two years. Then I built 5 weaponsmiths. By this time, Chang-an had also increased the amount they would sell me and gave me another gift. Annual production: 27. I also just happened to get a Grand Festival during this mission. For me, it was a Metal year, so I chose production bonus. That year, my 5 weaponsmiths produced a whopping 43 weapons. Too bad you don't get extra point for exceeding a production goal.

The last thing I needed was the Great Temple. The Great Temple (6x6) needs laborers from a Labor Camp and Carpenters with wood (30) and Ceramicists with clay (1) from the appropriate Guilds. I found a nice spot for the Temple and began it during the third year. It took about two years to finish. Finally, I used some of the extra weapons to build a Calvary fort and started laying out City Walls in case I should get attacked. I finished in just over 4 years with a population of 1804. I hear rumors that if you take much longer, some really bad things happen, so try to be prudent with meeting the goals as early as possible. |
