Budding of Buddhism

It was only two generations ago that your humble ancestor oversaw the extension of our long defensive wall at the remote site of Jiayuguan. Since that time, the spread of Buddhism has taken hold in the empire's capital of Luoyang.
The new regent, young Emperor Huandi, wishes to make use of your immeasurable talents. He has decreed that an impressive Temple Complex be built here in the capital of Luoyang, and that Buddhist shrines and pagodas be added to the cities wards, so that our citizens may pay proper homage to Guan Yin, the great Buddhist bodhisattva. The loyal citizens of Jiayuguan will no doubt be glad to trade quantities of stone for more wood, silk and a useful new commodity -- paper. This marvelous new invention can now be made through a process of soaking, pulping and drying hemp. The tax collectors are already making noises about the usefulness of paper, and its superiority over the hafts of wood they had been recording their debits and credits on. Now all they want is paper; make sure they have it in good supply or our city's finances will suffer.

The Temple Complex is 16x16 and requires 30 wood, 15 stone, 1 clay, and 72 dirt to complete along with laborers, and masons, carpenters and ceramicists from their respective Guilds.

Being a continuation mission, there were a number of things that I needed to do at the very beginning of this episode. The first was to begin making paper. I had more than enough hemp in storage to fill the first paper makers I built. To make 24 paper in one year, you need at least 4 paper makers. Paper is used at the Confucian Academy, the Tax Collector, and can also be exported

At the same time that you start hemp, you should also start the Temple Complex. Since I knew this was a requirement, I had already saved a spot for it. Supply the Temple Complex with wood, carpenters and laborers. Towards the end, you will need to add a ceramicist and provide it with a little clay, then a mason and some stone to finish the walls surrounding it.

The rest of this mission is opening trade routes and selling everything you make to reach the 85000 cash treasury goal. With all out trade, all the goals can be completed in 5 years. And it was a good thing too because I had a devastating earthquake in Feb 151. Fortunately, the last thing I needed was the Homage requirement and the Hero was already in the city so I didn't bother rebuilding my whole city and just let the last couple months pass while I just cleaned up the rubble.
