A Palace for Xuansong
Welcome back to Chang-an, the bustling capital of the mighty Tang Empire. Over six generations ago, during the reign of the Emperor Wendi of the Sui Dynasty, your hallowed ancestor judiciously planned the streets and laid out the wards of this still-thriving city.
It has now been ten summers since Emperor Xuanzong took power -- after first ridding the Tang courts of the bitter intrigue fostered by the insidious Empress Wu. Already, he has become acclaimed for his humane government and has firmly reasserted the personal authority of the Emperor, lifting the glorious Tang Empire to new heights of splendor and power.
Sadly, while the Brilliant Emperor has nobly tended to his Empire, the streets of Chang-an have been sorely neglected. Now he yearns for the city to put on a new face and assume its rightful position in the world. As the newly appointed Imperial Magistrate, reporting directly to Emperor Xuanzong, esteemed Son of Heaven, you are to oversee construction of a Grand Palace. You also need to ensure that schools for Drama, and Theatre Pavilions for entertainment, are added to the city's elite wards. Of course, the Emperor understands that some discretionary 'urban renewal' might be necessary.

City - Chang-an Requirements:
Difficulty played at - Very Hard |
In this mission, you return to the city that you completed in mission #1 of this campaign, "The Enlightened One". If you are following these walkthroughs and prepared for this mission ahead of time, this should be a very simple mission to complete, even on Very Hard.
I ended mission #1 with three housing blocks. One block contained 33 Luxurious Apartments. A second block held 39 Ornate Apartments. An elite housing block included 8 Impressive Compounds. I provided tea to the Ornate Apartment block to evolve it to Luxurious Apartments, provide additional workers and increase tax revenue. The elite housing block was provided with tea and drama, and thus fulfilled the requirement for "200 people in Heavenly Compounds".

Since I was already set up for monument construction where I had built the Grand Pagoda in the first mission, I placed the Large Palace adjacent to it and added several Laborers' Camps. I kept Xi Wang Mu in the city to speed up construction of the monument. The only other requirement that I had to fulfill was 8 Menagerie Animals, and I already had four. I checked the other cities on the map, made note of what they wanted and sent them gifts. When their favor was high, I requested an animal as a gift. There were no "requests" or "events" during the short time that I was building the city. The Large Palace was completed in November of CE 725. |
My final results:
Mission Completed: November CE 725
Cash: 213033
Population: 5252 with 200 living in eight Heavenly Compounds
Score: 7065
Feng Shui: Perfect Harmony
