Men of Arms

Wise and courageous leader, the shadows of conflict are fast approaching. Now is the time to prepare, as it will be too late to sharpen your sword when the battle is upon you. Copper ore can be smelted into fine blades by weaponsmiths. An Administrative City will be necessary to oversee the military and revenue collection. Arm and train a stalwart troop of soldiers to protect the city and its people. To partially offset the cost of raising this force, taxes should be levied. Loggers can provide wooden ledgers, needed by the tax collectors for their record keeping.

Now might be the perfect time for generous offerings to the great hero Huang Di. Perhaps the wisdom and might of the fabled Yellow Emperor will aid your city in its time of need.

City - Erlitou
Starts Feb 1876 BCE
6000 starting cash on all levels

Requirements:
  • Population of 1500
  • Produce 20 racks of weapons in one year

For your final tutorial and the second mission where you have to think for yourself, you return to the city you built at Erlitou. As before, much of what you need to know is in the tutorial information.

You have two requirements. The population was not a problem. I already had 973 when it started and I just added a few more houses to the loop. You will need a minimum of 29 elegant dwellings (for which you'll have to add a ceramics shop to your market place). I had just over 1500 at the end of the first year.

Your other requirement is 20 racks of weapons in one year. This is a calendar year from February to January. You probably won't be able to do this in your first year as you won't have enough employees at the beginning but I aimed to do it during the second year.

I started by building 2 copper smelters and 2 weapons workshops disconnected to the rest of the roads. At the end of the first year I'd only managed 7 weapons, so as I got more employees, I added another copper smelter and four more weapon shops. You will probably have loads of hemp & ceramics going spare. Use it to give homage to Huang Di. He's useful because he will fight for you and, in the meantime, will give ceramics to all houses he passes.

In June 1875 I was asked to send 2 hemp to Banpo and at about the same time I built my fort to make use of all the weapons I was producing. In August 1875 Pingyan is discovered. I tried to persuade them to trade with me but was unsuccessful. However, to add to my export money, I built one woodcutter and a tax office in both the common and elite blocks.

In October 1875 I was given 6 months warning for an invasion from Pingyang which would come after the new year. I duly managed 27 weapons in the second year, but instead of taking victory I carried on governing so I could tell you about the invasion.

In April 1874 the invasion arrived at the top by my smelters. I immediately moved Huang Di's flag towards the enemy & used the gather troops button to get my infantry there too. Set on full fist & fierce dragon, they easily overcame the invaders long before Huang Di ambled his way up there.

And that's the end of your initial learning curve. There's still loads more to learn, but you get to do it in the actual campaigns.

Good luck and have fun.
