Hao and Wei
Toppling the paper tiger kingdom of Shang was easy compared to the task now at hand. The far flung lands need to be united and ruled by a strong, but just, hand. Our new king, Wu Wang, the Son of Heaven, is well suited for the job. As royal administrator of the Zhou capital of Hao, the burden on the King will be eased if you perform well. There are vassals that must be controlled, and rivals usurped. As you guide the development of the city, you should keep a watchful eye on the other cities of the kingdom, particularly Shu. If a hen strays too far from the flock, she must be promptly bought back before becoming lost. Do not hesitate to use the King's army if the need arises.
As for the capital itself, ornate sculptures should be built to beautify the boulevards of the upper class, and graceful arched bridges used to span the powerful Wei river -- a river that at times can be quite unpredictable and dangerous, especially during the Spring rains.

City - Hao

I started this mission by building a housing block just south of the entrance point. I needed 3 Humble Compounds to meet the housing goal and I chose a mixed block of 38 common and 5 elite houses which would allow me with the Palace to build 7 forts.
You start the mission already ruling 2 cities, Anyang and Qufu and need to conquer one more. At all the other difficulty levels unless you do something to annoy your vassals they will quietly trade with you for the rest of the mission. At Very Hard though things take a different turn as in the first month Anyang rebelled, later in the year Qufu rebelled also.
With no food available to import until later when I could get a very small amount from Pingyang I had no real choice but to make food and hemp the earliest priorities. Once I had enough people I started bronze production and making weapons for my own use and to sell to Pingyang. The next industry started was silk, both for my own elites and to sell to Pingyang. These combined with taxes and later in the game selling some bronzeware to Qufu and carved jade trade to Anyang were enough to keep me out of debt and eventually be making a reasonable profit.
After a few years I had an excess of silk and gifted 16 to Pingyang, I followed this up later with another gift of 8 silk and then requested an alliance with them which they agreed to. This met the goal of 1 ally.

Early in 1048 I suppressed the rebellion in Qufu with 5 forts and Huang Di, I had tried with less and failed even though they had only 1 shield, presumably because they are walled cities and without catapults conquering walled cities is quite difficult. When they returned I again sent out 5 forts and Huang Di to quell the rebellion in Anyang. Just after the message about defeating Anyang occurred I got a message that the Nomad Camps would attack in 6 months. My troops did return before then but then I got a message that Shu was vulnerable so made a decision to attack them, again with 5 forts and Huang Di, leaving 1 Chariot fort and another Chariot fort just started behind to defend the city. |
When they did attack no bribe option was given though I had 18000+ cash, it was a couple of forts of horsemen and a few infantry but one chariot fort held off the few who moved from the entrance but most hung back for some reason. I received the message that I had won at Shu. The other Nomads were still at the entrance when my victorious troops from Shu returned though it and they defeated them. This was in December 1047 and the mission finished at the end of that month.
