Turbulent Winds - Salt Mines of Anyi
A valuable product lies buried in the hills surrounding Anyi, for it is there that underground deposits of salty brine lay hidden. If the brine is pumped to the surface and evaporated in kettles under big fires, the product is crystallized salt. Surely it is a gift from the dragon! It is past time for the government to take control of this lucrative industry so that more people can enjoy the delicious flavor that salt adds to the daily meal. Go to Anyi, locate the salt deposits, and construct salt mines. Open trade with the distant cities of the Zhou kingdom, for most have already acquired a taste for salt that is not easily satisfied. Ceramics and bronze can be imported from Hao, for the hills of Anyi, though rich in many ways, lack these commodities.

Your immigrants and traders enter the map from the southwest, so having the houses close to that side will help. You can build Elite housing, but I didn’t bother. You cant make ceramics, so I decided to leave the houses at Spacious Dwelling and just sell everything I could to get the treasury and yearly profit goals.
I set up a block and some hunters for early food. The game (pheasant) is all on the other side of the river, so place a couple of bridges. I started farming (cabbage and millet) right away and added one, then a second hemp farm later. I found someone to buy wood and game meat from me on the mainland side, but you can’t make much money from that.
So as soon as you have some extra workers, head for the salt flats across the river. What I did was just collect the salt in a warehouse until I could find someone to buy it. A little extra comes in handy, you will have some requests.
I did have a mild earthquake, and I don’t think it was because the Ancestral Gods were angry. Of course, anything is possible.
Since I was selling Salt to anyone that would buy it, I found some of those same folks would sell me clay and bronze. You can make a bit of money off selling Bronzeware. So my main export area was up there on the Salt hill. The traders have a bit of a hike, but transporting all the goods down to the river takes some time, too. Up to you how you do it.

This map has a couple of breeding spots for the Ugly Giant Salamander. Since bronze is an expensive import item, I didn’t build an infantry fort to kill the critters. The watchmen will kill them if they stumble across one, but they really aren’t much help. Just be prepared to lose a bit of production to the Salamanders |
All in all, it is a pretty quick mission. Watch your money close – you can skip a festival and go easy on the statues for decoration. And don’t forget to tax your folks.
