Salt Mines of Anyi
A valuable product lies buried in the hills surrounding Anyi, for it is there that underground deposits of salty brine lay hidden. If the brine is pumped to the surface and evaporated in kettles under big fires, the product is crystallized salt. Surely it is a gift from the dragon! It is past time for the government to take control of this lucrative industry so that more people can enjoy the delicious flavor that salt adds to the daily meal. Go to Anyi, locate the salt deposits, and construct salt mines. Open trade with the distant cities of the Zhou kingdom, for most have already acquired a taste for salt that is not easily satisfied. Ceramics and bronze can be imported from Hao, for the hills of Anyi, though rich in many ways, lack these commodities.

This peaceful mission has fairly basic goals. The first is the production goal of 28 salt in 1 year. Since salt mines produce 12 salt each per year, 3 salt mines are needed to meet this goal. Requests for trade at the start of the mission saw Pingyang and Hao accept, with Qufu and Anyang already trading. This meant I was able to sell 36 salt per year, so I built 4 salt mines to allow some salt for my own cities use.

The 2 other goals, yearly profit of 1,500 and treasury of 13,000 can be achieved by following a couple of simple rules, make money and don't spend more than you need to. I built one mid sized common housing block which were evolved to Ornate Apartments, the highest the mission can have. I didn't build any elite houses as the briefing gave no hint of military and there was no other reason to. I lost a number of immigrants to the deadly giant salamanders that inhabit the area near the entrance, but with no towers available there isn't much you can do about them. |
Apart from salt I sold carved jade, bronzeware, wood and millet. I did run out of money at one point after importing raw jade and bronze but exporting the finished goods soon had me out of debt. I never attempted to get Wu, Shu or the Nomad Camps to trade with me past the initial request that they refused as only Shu would buy anything I could make and that was just salt, not worth the effort of giving gifts to increase favour.
I won in Feb 1017 when I met the Treasury goal, my best profit was 5576 and I had produced 48 salt in 1 year.
