MEMORIES OF CHANG-AN - Singleplayer campaign.

During the second half of the 6th century CE, the Xianbei-ruled Northern Zhou conquered the Northern Qi and reunified northern China. The new Emperor Wen wants to initiate a series of economic reforms aimed at strengthening his empire for the wars that would reunify China. He needs you to find a new place near Chang-an and establish a thriving commercial port. Prepare yourself for a great challenge !

This campaign is rated "Very hard" and for the best experience the player should possess a good understanding of the game's combat and military operations, money management, trading, monument construction, summoning and using the heroes, and empire-map diplomacy.

IMPORTANT NOTE : The Zip file contains a text file "MOCA_readme.txt" with some tips to complete the campaign, especially mission 1, the hardest one. (SPOILER ALERT !)

The player will interact with 3 missions on a new custom map, Enormous size and Temperate climate.

"Memories of Chang-an" was designed by Frut_mut. I would like to thank Gweilo for his advice and his patience in answering my questions.


1 ) In the Service of Emperor Wen : begins in 582 CE - 8 years

2 ) The War against the Chen : begins in 590 CE - 8 years

3 ) The Korean Raids : Begins in 598 CE - 6 years

Sabotage by spies has been disallowed in this campaign, although spies may still be used for information gathering.

Note : Sorry if you find grammar and spelling english mistakes in the storyline, English is not my native language..

Hello everyone!
I am a long time lurker but I guess it is time to write reviews and participate in this forum! This is my first post.

first off, fruit_mutt, great job! This map has your seal all over it and please allow me to congratulate you on what a beautiful thing you have created.

The 1st mission is definitely the hardest I have played in this campaign if not the game. the long distances i have to manage for efficient trade made me fail several times.
This is the strategy i use (spoilers ahead)
Month 36 to 25: This is the year i made all the 5 required allies. I do this by in kind payments and not cash. For example, luoyang and jiang are "Agreeable" after get 1 shipment of 16 weapons but others require 2x 16 of their trade goods to get them to agree to ally up. At exactly 25th month, i send out requests for cash and call in mencius. Calling in mencius is very hard and i have 1 elite housing whom i give silk after the trade with luoyang is open. Some clever get/accept tricks.

Month 24 to 12: This is where i have to win the game, getting the victory in the last year does not count so....

my money requests come in, my trade ports are loaded and i sell off items only after mencius has blessed them. This is not possible for all of them as they are often too distant but i race mencius as soon as i get him. he is not fickle like sun wu kong, who is very difficult to keep around....

i can easily keep him 12 months without any gifts and blessing 2-3 trading posts. The traders and ships come in thick and fast and the trade profit rolls in. I have made 18000+ profit and i could have made more, but i realized later i kept my wages at Very High, which is necessary early game but not in this particular year. Make sure you do NOT celebrate New Year and save the 700 gold.

Appetizing food was not difficult with 2 granaries fetching salt and 3 farms producing rice+
soya beans.

i built 3 smelters and 3 weaponsmiths. These would be blessed 2x per year by SWK, producing 24 weapons (3x2x4) enough for 24 weapons required by luoyang and jiang (12 each). This is the minimum he has to do and it is still hard to keep him around. Envoys being sent for free, i didnt care much about for (1) profit >15000 is for one year only, when i do no spending whatsoever (no imports as i stock up lacquer and raw silk) and (2) i had enough money in the bank (3k+ after 2 years from game start).

The Next missions aren't hard even if you fought the battles manually. Enemy catapults, a curse upon them caused the most grief! they are the nukes of the ancient world as per ROTMK.

The 3rd mission is very easy, if catapults were made available i would have taught Ji and the other Korean city a lesson but with so much cash coming in i can easily pay the 16k bribes.

Give me catapults or make the invasions harder!
Over all great work, dont worry about english it is just a language! Keep going I will be opening up Dragon Wars next by the same author.
