My game runs very slow. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

Try running the game at the 800 x 600 resolution, also close down the mini-map. Make sure your computer is regularly Scandisked and Defragged and close down any programs running in the background.

Where do I put downloaded maps so I can play?

If it is a single mission map, ie with a .map extension then place it in the Cities folder. You will then be able to select the map and play it in Open Play. If it is a campaign, ie with a .pak extension then place it in the Campaigns folder. You will be able to select it from “Choose a Campaign” if it is a single player campaign or in the selection window in the Multiplayer Lobby if it is a Multiplayer campaign. For Multiplayer you also need to have any associated .map files in your Cities Folder. Remember for Multiplayer all players will need to have the .pak and associated city files installed on their computers.

Why do I get a message that I need a password when I try to download missions from Heavengames?

You don’t need a password but you cannot download while using download managers that have acceleration features as they use too much bandwidth.

One of these, DL Accelerator, mis-interprets the “Access Denied” message as a prompt for username/password. We have reported this to them in the past, but this bug apparently has not yet been fixed.

Can I take a screenshot of my city?

You can take a screenshot of the portion of your city that is showing on the screen. You do this by pressing the “Print Screen” key on the keyboard, alt/tab to put Emperor to your taskbar and open a Graphics program like MS Paint that is installed with Windows under Accessories. Press paste to get your screenshot showing as an image. You can then edit it if you want and save it.

I’m having problems hosting or joining Multiplayer games, what can I do?

The main problem usually turns out to be some kind of protection from outside connections on the computer. Try the suggestions in our Getting Connected article.
