Turbulent Winds – New Ways

The winds of the bitter internecine warfare that blow over the lands to the north are not as violent here, along the fertile shores of the Yangzi River. But the winds of change have been felt and with them the wise word of Confucius and the way of the Dao have arrived!
According to royal geomancers, this locations, evidently the site of an ancient temple, would be a most excellent place to establish a new city. If a Confucian Academy is constructed and shrines built for the followers of the Dao, your cities upper class will no doubt take residence in rather impressive compounds. Ensure that your humble citizens give proper respect to Confucius and to our ancestor heroes, for then it is very likely that they will be justly rewarded.

This is the first map in the campaign where you get new Religious buildings. Your Elite areas are the only ones that need the Daoist Shrine and Confucian Academy.

OK, you want to know everything or you wouldn’t be reading a walkthrough, right? The immigrants come from the East, so your houses will fill up faster if they are on that side. I had my trading area in the northern part of that side of the river, not too far to travel. All the farming, mulberry raising, silk making and ceramics factories were on the west side of the river.

You can fish and hunt, plus grow rice and cabbage. No reason to starve in Ying. It’s a nice little mission with some requests, but mostly the neighbors are nice.

Feng Shui is a bit challenging on this map. I placed my Mill behind the raised ruins and let the market ladies from the common houses hike a bit to buy their goods. They didn’t seem to mind. The fish were delivered to the Mill right through the Common Market, too.

You can see I had a L-shaped common housing block. As long as the overall length isn’t too far for the walkers, they will manage to service the houses. Leave a gap at the back so the new folks don’t have to travel all the way to the market to find a place to live.

The Elite block is mixed, there are 6 common houses in with the rich folks because I always need more population. You will need to give them both Silk and Bronzeware. I was really lazy and just bought Bronzware. The vendor took it right out of the trading post.

You can sell your Rice, game meat and wood. Silk is a better moneymaker, but takes a while to get started. I had an industry area weaving Silk and making Ceramics just outside the farm area. The only industry I had on the East side was chopping wood and carving Jade.

Now, you have to have 24 months of Heroes and you might know by now that if one of your Heroes leaves, the time of counting doesn’t start over when you get them back or call another one. Still, 24 months is a long time, so start early.

I called Nu Wa because she can capture animals and one of the rival cities did want one. Watch her very closely when she goes off to capture a Wild Pig. The hunters don’t seem to know the difference between Prey and Pets.
